Training to become a foreign language correspondent or a multi-lingual secretary opens up a variety of interesting career opportunities with which you can be assured of a good future. Since learning a foreign language is linked with business training, you effectively achieve a double qualification, something much in demand in today’s economy. You will simultaneously obtain a good grasp of secretarial administration, office communication and computer skills.
The key qualifications of foreign language skills and business know-how will be increasingly demanded by companies in the future. The European single market increased by 10 countries in 2004. More will follow. The Asian market, particularly that of China, will play an important role for Germany. The Latin American countries have not yet reached their full potential, but will certainly attain this in the future.
Since we place great importance on the knowledge of foreign trade, you will be prepared in the best possible way for these developments and, as a result, extremely employable in a variety of situations: At home and abroad, in the foreign trade department of all business branches and industries, in exhibition and congress co-ordination or in the media.
With a qualification a foreign language correspondent or multi-lingual secretary, it is possible to specialise further at our academy, for example as a translator or an interpreter. After a few years of work experience, it is possible to train towards the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) examinations in Business Administration. Multi-lingual secretaries have the additional opportunity to embark on a further programme of study at one of our partner universities in England and with this achieve a full university qualification.
Whichever path you choose – we prepare you for the job market of the future.
Training course: Foreign language correspondent Begin: first Monday in March and September: full-time; first Monday in September: part-time
Foreign language correspondents work independently on national and international correspondence, carry out minor translation work, prepare all necessary documents for overseas business, act as representatives at international trade fairs and exhibitions and undertake contact with customers and suppliers at home and abroad.
The foreign languages
The decision is yours whether to undertake the training in one or two languages. In the single language training, you concentrate wholly on English (Heidelberg) or choose between English, French or Spanish (Ludwigshafen). If you choose the double language training, we offer Spanish, French or German as a Foreign Language (if German is not your native language) as a second language in Heidelberg. In Ludwigshafen you can choose from English, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian.
Additional oppportunities
In order to perfect your language ability, we offer low-price trips abroad to our subsidiary in Tenerife and our partner schools in ten different countries (in Europe and further afield).
Course content
You will be schooled intensively in international commercial correspondence, in spoken communication as well as in translating both in and out of the foreign language. These classes are supplemented by lessons in regional and cultural studies – as it is often only through having exact knowledge about a country´s culture, politics and mentality that one can find exactly the right words in decisive situations.
In order to be able to successfully carry out the various duties as a foreign language correspondent, you require confident business knowledge. The business aspect of the course includes the basic principles of economics, foreign trade and accounting.
The training is rounded through schooling in current computer applications, wordprocessing, audiotyping and office organization.
